From Coast to Coast: Celiac Awareness Month Highlights 2025
May 31, 2025
As May comes to a close, we’re reflecting with deep gratitude on an unforgettable month of awareness, action, and community. This year’s campaign theme—“Celiac is a Chameleon”—struck a powerful chord with Canadians from coast to coast. Together, we made celiac disease more visible than ever by highlighting the many faces it can take and the hidden ways it impacts lives.
From glowing green landmarks to classrooms full of curious kids, this May was a testament to what we can accomplish together. Here’s a look back at the impact we created—thanks to you.
Throughout May, more than 32 landmarks across Canada lit up green to “Shine A Light” on celiac disease. From Science World in BC to St. John’s City Hall, these powerful visuals raised local awareness and helped spark conversations online and off.
We were especially moved by the number of people who showed up in person to take photos, share stories, and post their support on social media. If you spotted a landmark in green, thank you for being part of this national movement!
Thank you to the volunteers and municipalities who helped make this powerful visual statement a reality!
Kids Teach Kids - Youth Voices Making a Difference
One of our proudest campaign initiatives this year was Kids Teaching Kids—a peer-to-peer education program designed to empower young celiac advocates to teach their classmates about what it means to live gluten-free.
Over 200 classrooms across Canada participated, using our printable toolkits to give fun, engaging presentations. We heard from teachers who said it sparked empathy and understanding, and from parents who shared how proud their children felt educating their peers.
Together, these student-led sessions helped create safer, more inclusive classrooms for kids with celiac disease—and taught hundreds of children that different can be normal.
10+ influencers engaged with helping us spread the word.
Online, we saw a surge of new followers, story shares, and personal testimonials. On Instagram and Facebook, our community showed up and spoke out – and it made a difference.
Behind every post and event was a growing movement. This May, we:
Welcomed over 3,000 new newsletter subscribers
Engaged with over 24,000+ NEW visitors to our website
Reached over 600,000 Canadians through digital and traditional media
Received generous support from donors across the country — many giving for the first time
Received 10+ new community stories
Helped more than 1,000+ people get tested for celiac disease
Launched 399 people on their gluten-free journey with our GF101 Event
Shared mental health support and learning with 409 community members during our Mental Health Webinar
Each one of these milestones reflects the power of a connected, compassionate community committed to raising the bar for awareness, education, and support.
Looking Ahead: The Work Continues
Celiac Awareness Month may be over, but our mission is just getting started. This summer and fall, we’re:
Launching our new Foodservice Guide
Rolling out a pilot support program for older adults
Expanding physician education and outreach
Continuing to advocate for a refundable tax credit to help cover the high cost of a gluten-free diet
You helped make May incredible—now let’s carry that momentum forward.
Whether you lit up a building, led a classroom presentation, donated, or simply shared your story—you helped create change. Thank you for being part of a growing movement to bring celiac disease out of the shadows.
We see you. We hear you. And we’re not done yet.
